Dragon Eye Zoas

Dragon Eye Zoas have one of those names that makes it hard not to start assigning jobs to the polyps. Once a colony fills in, it can look like a whole row of tiny eyes keeping watch over the rock while the rest of the reef goes about its business.

Give it enough time and you may catch yourself deciding which polyp is the lookout, which one is guarding the treasure, and whether the snail crawling through the colony realizes it just wandered into dragon territory.

Dragon Eye is an older hobby name that has stuck around for years, and that simple bit of imagination is probably part of the reason. It is easy to remember, easy to recognize, and just a little more fun than calling them “those zoas over there.”
