Great Owl Zoas

Great Owl Zoas have a very clean, almost bullseye-like pattern, with a dark center surrounded by a warm orange ring and a bright outer skirt. Each polyp looks like somebody sat down with a tiny paintbrush and got unusually serious about staying inside the lines.

As they fill in, that repeating circular pattern starts spreading across the rock in neat little rows. The name may say owl, but these zoas look more like a bunch of miniature targets that wandered into a reef tank and decided to stay.
