ORA Red Planet is an established aquacultured Acropora from Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums and has become one of ORA’s most recognizable SPS corals. Its combination of strong coloration and tabling growth has helped it remain a popular named Acropora in the reef hobby.
Red Planet develops red to pink corallites over a metallic green base, with deep red polyps and pale pink to white new growth. Lighting can noticeably influence its appearance: under very intense light the green base may become less pronounced, while slightly lower light can bring back more of the green contrast beneath the red coloration.
We recommend starting the ORA Red Planet Acropora in the 250–350 PAR range. This higher-light range is appropriate for an established Acropora, but gradual acclimation is important when moving a frag into stronger lighting. Red Planet can also change its color balance with intensity; extremely strong light may reduce some of the metallic green base while emphasizing the red coloration.
Provide moderate to high, randomized water movement around the colony rather than a single concentrated pump stream. Strong changing flow is especially useful as Red Planet develops its tabling growth form, helping keep the surface and underside of the colony clear of accumulated debris.
Mid to upper rockwork is a good starting location once the coral has been acclimated to its intended light level. Choose an open position where the colony can receive strong, varied water movement without being placed directly in front of a pump.
Red Planet develops a tabling growth form that can spread outward substantially as the colony matures. Leave open space around and below it so the developing table has room to expand without crowding or shading neighboring corals.
