WWC Blood Diamond Favia

Blood Diamond sounds like the sort of thing that should come with a security guard and its own little velvet box. Instead, WWC put the name on a coral, and it works surprisingly well. Deep blood-red tissue surrounds bright green centers, with each corallite outlined by darker ridges that give the colony its cut-gem pattern.

This is an older WWC aquacultured piece that many reef keepers still know as the WWC Blood Diamond Favia, although WWC now identifies it as a Favites. Taxonomy can move the name around all it wants—Blood Diamond stuck.
