Lazy's Coral House

Green & Purple Duncans (5 heads!)

Green & Purple Duncans (5 heads!)

This is quite possibly the easiest to care for LPS coral. It isn’t to picky with light. Low to Moderate will do just fine. It can even adapt to high light with a slow acclimation over a few weeks. Although direct feeding is not required it can be satisfying to watch the large polyps take small bits of food such as fish flakes or frozen mysis from the water. These are 100% aquacultured. I purchased a single head in 2010 from a local greenhouse called the coral ranch. That single head has propagated many 100’s of Duncan’s colonies like this over that time.

Flow — Moderate

Moderate
Provide Moderate variable flow that keeps detritus from settling on the Duncan. Avoid constant direct current from the same direction in favor of random chaotic water movement.

Placement — Lower to Mid level

Placement of your Green & Purple Duncans is one of the most important decisions.
This is where you’ll have to take lighting, flow, future growth and nearby corals into consideration.
Since it prefers 125 - 200 PAR range it will need to be mounted Lower to Mid level on your rock work depending on your light intensity.
Allow room for its Solitary growth form, and consider neighboring coral colors and shape. When possible, use contrasting corals such as red next to green, blue next to orange, or yellow next to purple, and mix growth forms such as tall branching corals next to plating or encrusting corals.
