Purple Hornet Zoas are basically the mother of all Hornets. The original came from AquaDen; eBay seller from Lebanon Ohio. His wife gave them the Purple Hornet name because of the sharp yellow ring around the face that reminded her of a hornet. AquaDen later became ReefPets, but the Purple Hornet name had already taken on a life of its own.

That deep purple face, bright yellow ring, and alternating skirt became the blueprint for the whole Hornet family that followed. Reds, blues, blacks, rainbows—you name it. A lot of relatives came later, but Purple Hornets started the family.

Provide Moderate variable flow that keeps detritus from settling on the Zoas. Avoid constant direct current from the same direction in favor of random chaotic water movement.

Placement — Island

Placement of your Purple Hornets Zoas is one of the most important decisions.
This is where you’ll have to take lighting, flow, future growth and nearby corals into consideration.
Since it prefers 100 - 200 PAR range it will need to be mounted Island on your rock work depending on your light intensity.
Allow room for its Matting growth form, and consider neighboring coral colors and shape. When possible, use contrasting corals such as red next to green, blue next to orange, or yellow next to purple, and mix growth forms such as tall branching corals next to plating or encrusting corals.
